Tips Via Facebook

During my random check ups with Facebook, I stumbled upon a few groups about backpacking around Europe. I should have thought of this earlier but better late than never. After a quick search, about a dozen discussion groups came up. I chose to join 3 of the larger groups. To this day they are still very useful in planning my trip. If you have Facebook and are interested, click on the link below to join.

Note: the latter 2 are the most useful of the 3. There are many hints and tips about transportation, accommodations, and attractions. Also, you can post any questions and they will be answered by other backpackers. I highly recommend these groups to anyone who has interest in going to Europe.

3 Months Worth of Pictures

Many hundreds and possibly thousands of pictures will obviously be taken on this trip. This got me thinking; I have a digital camera but it only has a 256 MB card. After about 250 pictures I will be left stranded, which is the last thing I would want. Therefore, I needed a solution to this problem. My option was limited to buying a new 1 or 2 gig SD card for my camera until I came across the iPod Camera Connector.

I recently bought a 30 gig video iPod, so clearly an iPod Camera Connector is the better choice. Especially when considering the price per gig of storage. Fortunately, I was given the connector for my birthday because it is incredible. It takes awhile to transfer the pictures from the camera to the iPod but other than that it works perfectly. For any trip, this connector would be great and I recommend it to anyone who has an iPod.

With the pictures problem is solved, that is one less thing to worry about. Unfortunately, there is much more planning left but that is half the fun, right!!!

A Brief Synopsis

As promised, I'm back with some of the major details of my backpacking trip around Europe. First, I want to start off by introducing my backpacking buddies. I will be traveling with two friends, Jack Bangay and Josh Caswell, from my amazing hometown of Milton! You have to be from Milton to understand that sarcasm. We have been hoping to go on this trip ever since the end of high school. Now our chance is finally here, well in 4 months, but everything is piecing together beautifully and the three of us cannot wait until September comes.

We are planning on traveling to as many countries as we can fit into 3 months and will be staying in hostels for the majority of the nights. We are using www.hosteleurope.com to coordinate which hostels to stay at and I have added a Google Map on the sidebar that will show where we are and have been throughout our trip. Just below the map is a link to a great new feature offered in Google Maps and shows the major cities we plan to visit. Also, below that, I will keep a tally of my expenses throughout the trip and post the numbers in a graph in the sidebar.

I am trying to make this blog as useful as possible for people who are planning on or want to go backpacking around Europe. Any suggestions on what to add to this blog would be greatly appreciated. Until next time, cheers!

First Post!

Wow! I never thought I would be writing on a journal or blog but here I am with my first post. I have to admit though, I'm very impressed by what you can do on your own personalized blog. To be honest I am already addicted after only one day. I should actually be working on my thesis right now. However, I can't just leave my blog without christening it with my first post.

I have set this blog up to hopefully keep family and friends informed throughout my adventure around Europe, which will start in early September 2007. However, from now until I leave, I will routinely post my preparations for and planning of this trip. My next post will be more about the actual major details of the trip. I just wanted to do a quick write up about my excitement with starting up this blog.

Well that concludes my first post on a blog!! I don't really know how to end this now. My amateurishness is revealed! Anyway, I hope these few sentences have quenched the hundreds of minds reading this post. Now I have no reason to procrastinate about writing my thesis. Bye for now!?!?!
